A special, heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the recent Aspiring Law-Ignite Wanaka Chamber Future of Work presentation by futurist Tané Hunter, of Future Crunch.

We had a fantastic turnout of around 140 people – the best in the nine-stop national speaking tour – and Tané had such timely, valuable information and insight to share. It’s little surprise he’s gaining quite the global following – even Bill Gates is a fan.

Tané’s key messages? In short, the future rocks. The fastest information, energy and transport revolution in human history is already underway, and this will transform the way that we live and work. However, there’s nothing to be afraid of – the changes will actually improve our lives.

We will not be replaced by robots, either – there will always be a place for humans, according to Tané. In fact, artificial intelligence will spare us from some of the more mundane and mechanical tasks, freeing us up for more interesting jobs.

And, the most important qualities for employees in the future will be social skills, as well as the ability to work together and adapt, rather than purely technical skills.

As my fellow Director, Janice Hughes, told the audience as she introduced the event, one of the reasons our Aspiring Law team was so keen to support the Ignite Chamber in bringing Tané to town was a bit of impatience.

Earlier this year, the Government gave the Productivity Commission its terms of reference for a very important inquiry – the Future of Work. But, it’s not due out for another year, and we didn’t want to wait that long. As Janice said on the day, as business owners ourselves – and advisors to many others – we wanted our community to have the inside running on what’s coming, and how best to prepare, as soon as possible. Because, never, arguably, has that saying “The Future is Now” been more accurate.

Tané and his Future Crunch team have a great monthly newsletter which brings you up to date with a lot of positive developments happening in the world that often don’t appear in the mainstream media. You can sign up by visiting https://futurecrun.ch/subscribe

Thanks, again, to everyone who came along – it was really rewarding to share such an enlightening evening with you all.
